Arrangements for you children
The security and happiness of their children is the prime concern of separating parents but sometimes parents can differ in their views of how to achieve this.

Mediation can help parents pursue their separate lives whilst continuing to cooperate over their parenting roles.

Children need support and understanding through this time. Parents may be overwhelmed by the difficulties they face and children can feel left out, helpless and insecure.

Mediators can help parents co operate in communicating with their children in ways that reassure them in facing the changes and uncertainties they are experiencing.

Contact
Children fare best if they have regular, predictable contact with both parents from the start. Mediation can enable parents to set up short-term arrangements quickly and establish communication that will enable them to adapt to the changing needs of the children through the years.

Sometimes arrangements that have been in place go wrong for various reasons. Mediation can help in these situations.

Maintenance
Children need financial as well as emotional support. This can be addressed by the BFMA mediators.

The Wider Family
A rift between parents can spread to a rift between other family members significant in the children’s lives and result in children losing contact with loved relatives.

Contact arrangements with extended family are often discussed during mediation.
