Providing clarity on your financial Arrangements
Financial uncertainty is a major concern for many separating couples. Where previously the family income supported one household the same income must stretch to support two.

Mediation can help couples consider all the options for sharing the assets, including decisions about the family home, dealing with debts, pensions and benefits.

There may be need for a short-term arrangement to be set up while the longer-term issues are put in place.

Clients assemble details of all finances involved, assets as well as debts. It is essential that this is accurate and complete. Options for distributing the assets and dealing with the debts are explored with a view to enabling both parties to move on to their new lives. Where there are children, their security will be the prime concern.

Mediators may give general information about Welfare Benefits and other matters. They may identify where individual specialist advice would be helpful eg mortgage companies, pension providers, solicitors, estate agents, financial advisers, debt management agencies. Such information can be brought back to the mediation and contribute to an informed discussion following which realistic proposals can be made.

However, the decisions about the distribution of assets remain with the clients.
