| Steering You Through The Mediation Process |  | | When you contact BFMA, you will be offered an initial meeting (either on your own or together) to consider whether mediation is appropriate for your circumstances. Your eligibility for legally funded mediation will be assessed at this meeting. This enables some people to have their mediation sessions paid for by the Legal Services Commission.
If it is decided to continue to mediation, you will be asked to gather all relevant information – particularly financial – and agree on a time for the initial mediation session.
At the mediation you will be seen together to discuss the issues between you. The mediator(s) will draw up an agenda and ensure that everyone has an opportunity to speak and to be listened to. You can then consider the options available to you with regard to the children, property, money, debts etc. | When you come to arrangements that you both feel are realistic and practicable, BFMA’s mediator will draw up a document summarising these proposals for each of you.
It is recommended that you discuss these proposals with your solicitor who can then see that it is made into a legally binding agreement.
Costs
Some people will be eligible for legally funded mediation, in which case there is no cost to them.
For those not eligible, the fees are £225 + VAT per person per session.
Typically 2 or 3 sessions are needed, each lasting an hour and a half. |
